A one-day workshop on “Transforming Food, Land, and Water Systems to Combat the Climate Crisis” for the state of Chhattisgarh was held on 12 August 2025 at IGKVV, Raipur, to unite researchers, policymakers, development practitioners, and stakeholders working in sustainable agriculture and climate resilience. Dr. Girish Chandel, Honourable Vice-Chancellor of IGKVV, Raipur, inaugurated the workshop and flagged the key issue pertaining to food, land, water status in Chhattisgarh. Dr. P.K. Rai, Director, ICAR-NIBSM, Raipur shared his experience of Mustard cultivation in the country.
Dr. J.S. Mishra, Director, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur, served as the Nodal Officer for the state, and Dr. Vivek Tripathi, Director Research Services at IGKVV, Raipur, was the workshop coordinator. The event aimed to highlight the connections between food security, natural resource management, and climate change while exploring strategies to develop adaptive and sustainable systems. Experts from academic institutions, government agencies, and NGOs discussed ongoing schemes, issues, and problems, and proposed innovative solutions and future strategies to improve productivity without harming the environment in Chhattisgarh.
Key discussions focused on promoting climate-smart and sustainable agricultural practices, conserving land and water resources through integrated approaches, strengthening community resilience and inclusive policies, and exploring science, technology, and policy supports for transformative change. The event concluded with a call for collaborative action, knowledge-sharing platforms, and capacity-building programs to speed up the transformation of food, land, and water systems. Participants emphasized that combating the climate crisis requires coordinated efforts at the local, national, and global levels. A total of 45 participants attended in person, with some officials joining online. The program ended with a formal vote of thanks.
