National Weed Herbarium

Being a National Institute on Weed Research, Weed Herbarium Database has been developed at ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur. This venture has been planned and initiated with 125 weed species, which belong to 29 family and 89 genera. The weed samples collected from different AICRP-WM centers and also nearby districts of Jabalpur have been used for preparation of weed herbarium specimens. This herbarium will function as an important tool to empower the researchers and other stakeholders in identification of weeds and morphological measurements, documentation of introduction and dispersal of new weeds, microscopic observations and availability of location specific data for planning of field trips. In addition to these important functions, it will also serve as a repository of new collections, data for revisions and monographs, plant material for DNA analysis and study of evolution and genetic diversity.
