A 10-day (1-10 September 2025) online National Training programme on “Smart Weed Management for Sustainable Agriculture”, jointly organized by the Indian Society of Weed Science (ISWS) and the ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur, was inaugurated today. The training program was inaugurated by Dr. J.S. Mishra, Director, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his inaugural address, Dr. Mishra highlighted the significance of sustainable weed management strategies in improving crop productivity, resource-use efficiency, and environmental sustainability. He encouraged participants to adopt innovative and integrated weed management approaches for achieving sustainable agriculture. The inaugural session also featured addresses by Prof. T.K. Das, President of ISWS and Course Director; Dr. V.K. Choudhary, Course Director; and a welcome note by Dr. Yogita Gharde, Course Coordinator.
A total of nearly 463 participants have registered for the training, including 290 scientists, technical personnel, and extension functionaries, and 173 students reflecting the growing interest in smart and mechanized weed management practices across India.
The online training program provides participants with in-depth knowledge of smart and mechanized weed management, covering herbicide use, residue management, herbicide-resistant weed management strategies, integrated weed management and use of digital tools AI & ML for controlling weeds. Renowned national and international experts will deliver lectures on different crops and cropping systems, parasitic weed management, aquatic weed management, digital tools for weed identification, with interactive sessions to enhance online learning. The sessions include participant evaluations and assessments to ensure thorough understanding and effective learning outcomes.
