A 10-day National Training programme (1-10 September 2025) on “Smart Weed Management for Sustainable Agriculture,” jointly organized by the Indian Society of Weed Science (ISWS) and ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research (DWR), Jabalpur, successfully concluded today. This online training program brought together 463 participants, including scientists, technical personnel, extension functionaries and students from across the country.
During the training, 23 eminent experts, including five from reputed institutions across the globe, delivered lectures on a wide range of topics such as herbicide resistance, weed biology, smart mechanized tools, parasitic and problematic weeds, nano-technology, climate change impacts, digital technologies for weed identification, etc.
In his valedictory address, Chief Guest Dr. A.N. Rao, Editor-in- Chief, Indian Journal of Weed Science emphasized the importance of integrating smart weed management in sustainable agriculture. Dr. JS Mishra Director, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur highlighted the need for innovative research and technology dissemination to tackle the rising challenges of herbicide resistance and climate change. Dr. T.K. Das, President ISWS in his concluding remarks highlighted the emerging challenges in weed management and management strategies. The training was coordinated by Dr. V.K. Choudhary, Course Director, and Dr Yogita Gharde and Dr JK Soni as Course Coordinators.
