The ICAR–Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur, organized Kisan Samman Diwas cum Awareness Programme on Viksit Bharat–G RAM G Act 2025 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh, former Prime Minister of India and a strong advocate of farmers’ welfare. The programme witnessed the participation of a total of 206 participants, comprising 175 farmers, of whom 114 were women along with 31 other participants, including scientists and staff of the Directorate, reflecting wide stakeholder engagement.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. P. K. Mukherjee, Pr. Scientist and PI (FFP). This was followed by an informative lecture by Dr. P. K. Singh, Principal Scientist and In-charge, PME, on the Viksit Bharat–G RAM G Act 2025, highlighting its objectives, key provisions, and potential benefits for rural livelihoods and employment generation. The event also featured online streaming of addresses by the Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who emphasized the significance of Kisan Diwas and the crucial role of farmers in nation building. The Hon’ble Minister also highlighted the salient features of the Viksit Bharat–G RAM G Act 2025 and its expected impact on rural employment, livelihoods, and agricultural development.
Later, Dr. K. K. Barman, Principal Scientist, delivered a lecture on Natural Farming, followed by an open interaction-cum-feedback session, during which farmers shared their experiences regarding rabi crop status and discussed various field-level issues.
During the programme, literature on the Viksit Bharat–G RAM G Act 2025, improved weed management practices, natural farming, and improved agricultural practices was distributed among the participants. As part of the programme, sprayers were distributed as critical inputs to 35 farmers, including 26 women farmers, under the FFP, to facilitate timely and efficient crop protection. The gathering was further addressed by the Hon’ble Director, Dr. J. S. Mishra, who highlighted the importance of the Viksit Bharat–G RAM G Act 2025 in the context of field-level agricultural interventions and water conservation. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Yogita Gharde, Senior Scientist, ICAR–DWR. After lunch, a field exposure visit was organized for the participating farmers at the Directorate.
