ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur, in collaboration with ICAR-Central Rice Research Institute, Cuttack, and ICAR-Central Institute for Research on Buffaloes, Hisar, organized a Tribal Sub-Plan programme at Dugariya village of Mandla district, Madhya Pradesh. The programme focused on the management of weedy rice through the adoption of Herbicide-Tolerant Rice (HTR) CR Dhan 807, which enables effective control of weedy rice through the application of imazethapyr herbicide. During the programme, imazethapyr and pretilachlor+ pyrazosulfuron-ethyl were distributed to participating tribal farmers for the management of weedy rice and associated weed flora in rice. Scientists also demonstrated the recommended methods and timings of herbicide application for effective and sustainable weed management. Farmers were sensitized on the proper use of herbicide-tolerant rice technology and integrated weed management practices.
As part of the programme, a “Khet Bachao Abhiyan” was undertaken, during which scientists visited farmers’ fields and provided technical guidance on weed management and improved crop production practices. The field visit facilitated direct interaction with farmers and helped address location-specific production constraints. The team also reviewed the rearing of Kadaknath chicks distributed to beneficiary households as part of the Integrated Farming System approach being promoted under the Tribal Sub-Plan programme. The chicks were found to be healthy and growing well, demonstrating the potential of backyard poultry for enhancing income, livelihood diversification, and nutritional security among tribal farming families.
A total of 75 tribal farmers benefited from the programme through technology demonstrations, field visits, and capacity-building activities. The programme strengthened awareness among tribal farmers regarding innovative weed management technologies and sustainable farming practices for improving agricultural productivity and livelihood security.
