Workshop cum field day on Conservation Agriculture organized on 27 March, 2018 at ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur   (27 March, 2018)


ICAR-Directorate of Weed Research, Jabalpur organized one day workshop cum field day on 27 March, 2018 on ‘Conservation Agriculture’ to create the awareness among farmers about the necessity of conservation agriculture in the present scenario under CRP on conservation agriculture. At the outset, Dr. P.K. Singh, Director, ICAR-DWR explained in his welcome address about the importance of the conservation agriculture which is now, considered a route to sustainable agriculture. He informed that conservation agriculture based crop production systems are gaining interest in most of the areas in the country. A psychological change of farmers, experts, extension functionaries and researchers is necessary to increase the adoption rate of Conservation Agriculture. During the programme, 187 farmers including farm women’s of the different villages of nearby areas and from adopted villages of the Directorate under ‘Mera Gaon Mera Gaurav’ and Farmers FIRST programmes were attended.

Dr. R.P. Dubey, Principal Scientist, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur delivered a lecture on organic farming. He stressed upon the adoption of organic farming and informed the audience that, Madhya Pradesh is leading in the area and production of organic products. He suggested to adopt the organic farming in a portion of their area and subsequently increasing the area every year; because adopting the organic farming in whole farm will reduce the food grains production drastically. This was followed by lecture on ‘Biological control of weeds and their utilization’ by Dr. Sushil Kumar, Principal Scientist, ICAR-DWR, Jabalpur. He informed the farmers about the different biological methods used for controlling weeds along with their utilization methods. He emphasized upon the different methods of composting. Afterwards, Er. Chethan C.R. demonstrated the right method of herbicide spraying and advised the farmers about precautionary measures to be adopted during spraying.

Dr. V.K. Choudhary, Programme Coordinator, gave lecture on Conservation Agriculture and showed the crops of the Directorate raised under Conservation Agriculture. He was accompanied by Mr. Dibakar Ghosh, Dr. Subhash Chander and Er. Chethan C.R. who answered the queries of the farmers during the visit of the farm of Directorate. During the programme all the scientific, technical, administrative staffs, RA, SRF and students of the Directorate was present. This programme was highly successful and participants were highly satisfied. The programme was facilitated by Dr. Yogita Gharde, Scientist; and Dr. V.K.
